Carnival in Sitges
There are many cultural festivals including cinema shows, carnivals, jazz-sessions, and series of summer concerts. The city acquires reputation for exhilarated cultural centre which pays less attention to the conditions. It is often called as «one of the most popular gay-resort in Europe».
Thousand gays and lesbians come to sunny Sitges in order to spend summer rest.
However, the carnival is the main event in the calendar of Sitges making holidays of overcrowded summer months sing small. Four days before the beginning of carnival holidays in Sitges there is a gay-carnival – it is presented with «Pink Night», «Night of Mantilla», «Night of Tourists», and «Night of Widows». The carnival itself starts on Tuesday before Ash Wednesday with arribo – carnival’s king ascending to the throne. Life rhythm in the city becomes hectic. Guests are offered with incredible variety of beverage and dishes – particularly, we recommend to draw attention to chateaunadeux – traditional local salad given with different omelets. During the carnival in the city more than 250 thousand guests live it up.
Special ruas (carnival parades) are held for children on Sunday and Tuesday in the afternoon. In the evening entertainments for adults begin. Firstly there is Parade of Debauch which name speaks for itself, then Parade of destroy follows – try to imagine what it is. The last day several funny shows with outfit change are also arranged. On Ash Wednesday the greatest Spanish streaks end with the ritual funerals of inevitable sardine. Certainly, sardine is got not from tin-can and not from fish market – indeed, it is a huge stuffed animal.
