Ice-cream in Italy meets a ready market, especially its local kind called as gelato. Italians love and appreciate gelato so much that they would not mind dedicating the entire festival to this dessert.

The festival of ice-cream in Italy has been being celebrated since 2010 and from small short event in Florence transformed into total national feast lasting annually from April to October.

The festival of ice-cream in Italy called as Gelato Festival was firstly held in Florence because verily this city is the motherland of Bernardo Buontalenti who is believed to be the inventor of gelato. The success of the first festival was huge and in the next two years organizers arranged it in Florence again.

Since 2013, the festival has changed its concept. Now it is held not only in Florence but also in Rome, Milan, and Turin, the cities that are famous as the capitals of taste in Italy. The festival attracts not only local citizens and ice-cream producers but also the guests and fabricators from different countries.

The main purpose of the festival of ice-cream in Italy is to tell to the wide publics about such an amazing delicacy as gelato, make people closer to its history and ways of production. That is why at the festival people may not only gorge it but also to look at the process of its production, know about its receipts, and discover its secrets.

One of the key events of the festival is the competition among the producers of gelato. In this contest the guests vote for the ice-cream they like, and the producer is awarded in case his ice-cream gained the majority of votes. So as to have a possibility to vote in the competition, the guests of festival purchase special cards giving right to try contest samples.

One more significant event of the festival is the demonstration of a real process of gelato production. The event is organized in a special moving workshop called, by the way, in honor of Buontalenti. Here the spectators are offered with the possibility to observe how the ancient craft and modern technologies were combined in the wonderful tandem aimed to receive the most delicious and gentle dessert.

At the festival guests may enjoy Italian ice-cream with traditional and new tastes. In general, every year participants of the festival of gelateria offer special unusual tastes of their products acceptable only at Gelato Festival.
