Belgium will build the island in North Sea

The authorities of Belgian Flanders are planning to build an artificial island in the waters of North Sea. The directorate of the region was forced to come to such measures because of the threatening of waterflooding of resort zone.
The minister of tourism Ben Wates told to journalists about that. As he said, nearly eight million euro are to be contributed by the local authorities to the development of technical economical maintenance of the project, as RIA Novosti reports.
By 2020 it will have been built the obstructing artificial place of dry land that is about to be situated approximately in one kilometer from the coast of resort city Knokke-Heist. Later, the square of the artificial island can be increased up to 450 ha, as the minister reported.
