WWF: in the world there are 60% less animals
The fund along with the Zoological community of London accounts the index which reflects the number of different kinds of animals. From 1970 till 2012 the index decreased by 58%.
The workers of fund are assured that by 2020 the index is about to reduce by 67% in comparison with 1970.
WWF explains the reduction of animals’ populations by the human activity. People take more lands for farming and building of cities.
The reason of animals’ extinction becomes the contamination of environment, changing of climate, hunting as well as inclusion in the environment non-typical for the state places plants and animals conducted by a human.
‘We are moving to the new era of Earth’s history called anthropocene’, as the CEO of WWF Marco Lambertini claimed. This concept serves as the name of geological epoch where the ecosystem of planet depends on the human activity.
In the report it is said that biological diversity is the basis of the healthy forests, rivers, and oceans.
According to the report, the biggest losses are taken by animals living in lakes, rivers and sloughs. For forty years the populations of animals residing in the fresh water has reduced by 81%.
In the fund the significant reduction of the number of elephants in Africa as well as sharks are noticed because of too active fish capture.
