Protected environmental zone with the square of more than 1.5 million square kilometers will be located in Ross Sea. The agreement has been signed by European Union and 24 more countries, including Russia.
Negotiations about the creation of similar zone in Antarctica have been arranged since 2012. According to the conditions of agreement, accepted upon the results of the meeting of Convention on the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR), at the biggest park of the conservation’s territory the fish capture will be forbidden. The agreement will have been lasting during 35 years, as it is reported by Vedomosti.
Russian delegation deputy administrator at the meeting of CCAMLR Dmitriy Kremenyuk reported that inside the zone the special area of investigations is about to remain where the fishing trade with additional limitations is possible.
‘Russia saved the right to lead there trade from the point of view of the fishing capture’s volume, the total square is a bit increased, however, there is a modification of its districts which requires supplementary estimation. Particularly, this area includes the regions where earlier the fishing trade has not occurred’, as TASS gave reference to the quotation of Kremenyuk.
The sea protected environmental zone created will become the largest in the world. The agreement will come into power on the 1-st of December, 2017.
