The first in Western Europe embassy of Palestine opened in Sweden
The President of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas who attended Sweden opened the embassy.
Earlier Palestinian authority was represented there as diplomatic mission. The member of executive committee of Palestinian Liberation Organization doctor Wassel Abu Yusef claimed: «Status increase of diplomatic representation of Palestine in Sweden from the level of diplomatic mission to the level of embassy once again proves the appropriateness of Palestinian issue. It adds diplomatic steps after recognition of Palestinian state by Sweden».
Yusef also appeals the governments of European countries to determine Palestinian state following recommendations of their parliaments: “International society currently sees the necessity in legal acknowledgement of independence of Palestinian state and Palestinian issue”.
Heretofore the countries of European Union expressed the willingness to recognize Palestine as the state. In several countries, particularly in Great Britain, Ireland, Spain, “symbolic votes” were held with the exclamations to extend recognition of Palestine to a state. Sweden has already officially supported this decision. At the moment 135 countries regarded Palestine state.
