Every summer, five times in five different locations along the middle flow of the Germany main river Rhine, half a million spectators come eager to admire magnificent fireworks - festival of lights.
There are so many lights that even waters of the Rhine seem to be on fire. The secret of this spectacle is a sparkler: it burns long and brightly creating an entire wall of flame. The lights are lit on the whole fleet - from 50 to 60 ships move along the river illuminating the most beautiful castles in Germany.
Each castle seeks to outdo its neighbors, adding lights to salute from the river. Blazing sky reflects in the water, and salute buzz is echoing along the spurs of the mountains. The audience is literally breathtaking. Each year the Rhine in Flames Festival finishes with especially sumptuous finale. For instance, once in Koblenz, where at the confluence of the Rhine with the Moselle rises mass affluent of Herberstein castle, the latter suddenly exploded with flash of sparklers.
Series of fireworks begins in May at the Night of Bengal Fire when the fleet goes from Linz to Bonn. In July, the Night of Magic Fire is marked on a picturesque bend of the river between Bingen and Rüdesheim. It is followed by the March to Koblenz (this is the biggest fireworks lit first in 1766) in August.
