Today in various parts of the Peruvian department of Ica, particularly in areas of El Carmen and El Guayabo, inhabited mainly by Afro-Peruvians, special celebrations are held in honor of Saint Carmen.
Interestingly, that in Ica the festival bears the name La Peoncita, due to the teenagers who perfomr the dances calledlos negritosandlas pallitas.
Virgin Carmen de Chincha is the saint patroness of the Métis. The main festivities in her honour are held in the town of Paucartambo, located near Cusco. On the main square two groups of musicians perform, at the same time the choir sings songs in the language of Quechua Indians. And around this action people dressed in costumes of Indians dan folk dances.
