Mayor of London slept rough with homeless
Johnson accompanied by Russian executive Evgeny Lebedev slept rough in sleeping bags lying on the sheet of cardboard near the St Paul’s Cathedral, in the City of London.
Charity event was intended to help British homeless veterans.
«People who have served our country in the most difficult and unimaginable situations deserve all the help we can give them.We have made a demonstrable difference in decreasing the number of veterans out on the streets in the last two decades, but it’s tragic to learn how many there still are out there», Johnson claimed to journalists.
Mayor of London stated that he would do his best to help veterans with home seeking, and action involved newspaper should draw attention of society to the problem of homeless and gather money in order to spend on solution of this issue.
Boris Johnson and Evgeny Lebedev also attended one of the veterans’ houses where homeless former members of army forces found shelter. Some of them had been roving in British capital for two years, and others – more than forty years.
The mayor was acquainted with one of the oldest veterans, the man Ronaldo, 84 years old, who fought in the royal army even in the times of Korean War in 50-s years of the last century.
«It’s wonderful to see the work being done by institutions helping those out in the cold, and we can’t give them our thanks enough», - Johnson told.
We would like to mention that it is long since mayor of London has become famous outside own city, and country in total. At first, it happens because of his unconventional behavior being out of tune with the image of typical British official.
Johnson dresses soberly and quietly; when there is a possibility, he goes on foot or by bicycle; he is not ashamed of being among citizens without guards. Besides that, mayor is often criticized because in his speeches he likes using cussword.
