The pictures of Hitler were sold at auction for 391 thousand euros

Автор: 26.06.2015 | art, personalities
The auction house Auktionshaus Weidler in Nurenberg has sold fourteen watercolor drawings, which allegedly were created by Adolf Hitler from 1908 to 1922, as British television and radio broadcasting corporation BBC reported on Monday.

The pictures were sold by auction for 391 thousand euros (almost $450 thousand). The most expensive one appeared the drawing of New Swanstone Castle in Bavaria – the investor from China bought this aquarelle for 100 thousand euros.

The auction house has not revealed the names of customers only noticing that they are people who are interested in high art.

It is not the first time when Nurenberg auction house puts out the pictures of Hitler to tender. Despite the fact that the experts underestimate artistic merit of the works, a great amount of money is given for the pictures.

Before the foundation of Nazi party, Adolf Hitler dreamed of being a painter. During his lifetime he created nearly three thousand pieces of art the main part of which consisted of pencil drawings.

Many people in German criticize Auktionshaus Weidler for the sale of works of Nazi leader. The auctioneers respond that all reclamations should be exposed to the owners of pictures.

Nazism propaganda in Germany is forbidden, however, the law does not prohibit from the sale of Hitler’s pictures, because they do not contain illicit symbols and do not praise Nazi party and ideology.
