In Munich the gay-friendly traffic lights have appeared

Автор: 13.07.2015 | Germany, society
In German city Munich LGBT-friendly traffic lights have appeared where not only heterosexual couples but also gays and lesbies hold hands. As PinkNews reports, the local council decided to equip pedestrian crossings in such a way on the threshold of Gay Pride (annual gay-parade) which is to occur on Saturday, on the 11-th of July.

It was German Green party who spearheaded the establishment of traffic lights, while the members of Christian Social union clamored against that. It has taken for ten thousand euros to arrange the change.

It is stated that traditional images on the traffic light could return whenever – for that one should only replace special glass where the silhouettes of homosexual couples are depicted.

The first time when the gay-friendly traffic lights were established happened in Vienna in May, 2015 before the music contest «Eurovision» arrangement. Because of popularity of traffic lights among the citizens, the authorities decided not to dismantle them after singing competition, as it had been planned initially.

In Germany gay-marriages are banned, however, since 2001 the representatives of LGBT community may register domestic partnership. As of 2013, in the stated country 35 thousand same-sex unions had been registered.
