Japanese company created a child-robot for lonely people
Its only function is the maintenance of dialogue. In the meantime, he speaks with quite a high voice. The robot is able to distinguish human emotions and react at them, however, it is not able to perceive faces.
As for the level of development, the robot should resemble five-year-old child. Kirobo Mini shakes a bit imitating the movements of a kid that is sitting and who has not had the skills of coordination developed completely yet.
As designer Fuminori Kataoka, one of the creators of Kirobo Mini, thinks, such functions should encourage appearance of emotional affection to the robot.
Toyota tried to soften the consequences of negative demographic tendencies in Japan introducing its invention as this country is considered as the leader on the indicators of ageing coefficient in the developed countries. Besides that, many Japanese women refuse to get children.
The company is planning to start the sale of robots since the next year; the cost of Kirobo Mini will be 39.8 thousand yen (approximately 392 dollars). Toyota is not intending to export robots in other countries.
As it is claimed in the company, the creation of Kirobo Mini became the important step on the way to the invention of more advanced robots who are about to be able to differ and react at the human emotions.
Toyota is not the only Japanese company that is dealing with similar exploitations. The company Intelligent System Co Ltd. represented earlier robot Paro made in the form of child of hair-seal.
The robot is intended for the collaboration with aged people who suffer from dementia. It should help to downplay the symptoms of the illness.
