As a child I could spend hours gazing at the sky and spying majestic flocks of birds winging their way south. For a kid this movement was a real magic. Today my bookshelf hosts almost no books about magic, though I am still excited about feathered tribes travelling in hope to land on their winter grounds.

We know Estonia as a homeland of Skype, an owner of unusual dishes like milk soup with vegetables and we are surprised of the absence of future tense in the national language. And today we would like to have another precise look at the tiny country and drop into the "aspen grove" - the calm and friendly small town of Haapsalu, the administrative centre of Lääne County.

Baltic States are a good destination for inexpensive tourism in Europe, they are well known for various attractions and changeable weather. Local waters and winds come up with unexpected rainfalls, but that is not a reason to hide in the hotel since there are many amazing museums around, and it is not much of a problem to visit all three countries within just a few days.

Quiet fishing villages are seething with whirlpools of ideas and brilliant minds. Tallinn bohemians revived to life the ancient seaside neighbourhood Kalamaja. Since the Middle Ages, the area was traditionally dominated by fishermen, fishmongers and boat wrights, and nowadays catchers of souls are flocking towards the place, twining variegated networks of studios...

History of Estonia isn’t preserved in scrolls of parchment but in leaden chronicles of the North Sea. Winding coastline three thousand kilometers long has seen millions of sails starting with striped cloths of drakkars to nap-of-the-earth flight of clippers over the waves in the era of steam and electricity.

People who like to travel usually visit the same places. Citizens of Paris, Venice, Rome, Krakow, Dresden have become accustomed to tourists for so long that they often look cavalierly at them, pouting their lips, while less known but no less interesting towns or villages always welcome guests.

If you did not manage to go anywhere in the summer, do not worry, there are some countries which literally bloom in autumn. One of them is a tiny beauty Estonia, located on the Baltic coast. The OUTLOOK will share some facts about it and its people.
