In Turkey eleven hectares of forest full of tasty earth-balls are found out
‘One hectare of earth-balls forest is situated in district Demirji of Izmir province, ten hectares more are located in district Soma in Manisa. We are trying to define how these masses may become more productive’, the head of regional department of forest land Sahin Aybal told.
As he said, the authorities acclaimed zones of earth-balls spreading as areas of special protection. It is done to coordinate efforts on gathering and further growing of rare mushrooms and put down uncontrolled usage of a valuable natural resource, TASS marks.
In Western Turkey it is mainly summer earth-balls which grow. They are considered as delicacy, however, are appreciated less than others, rarer types of these mushrooms. Meanwhile, even cost of a kilo of summer earth-balls may reach one thousand euro that is a great deal of money for the family finances of local citizens.
