On the bottom of Mediterranean Sea scientists found out a mysterious monolith
Divided into two parts stone was found not far away from the coast of Sicily. The investigators called it «underwater Stonehenge» because the monolith reminds the stones of a famous British sanctuary.
Meanwhile, the discovery appeared so enigmatic. The scientists do not hesitate that the monolith was created by the hands of a person nearly ten thousand years ago. The stone has three holes with a diameter of 40-60 centimeters; one of them located near bottom is perforated, as «Russian newspaper» reports.
It caused a version that monolith could be used as the anchor. However, the weight of stone is approximately fifteen tons, and its length is twelve meters. Who could be in a need of such an anchor? According to the second option, the stone might have been a part of an ancient lighthouse. Nevertheless, researchers are puzzled because of the discovery’s age – it is too shriveled. Now the monolith is situated on the depth of forty meters, but initially it apparently may have been located ashore.
The experts from Tel Aviv university suppose that it stayed on the island having gone under nearly 9500 years ago as a result of increase of World ocean level.
