TV Channel CNN Started Broadcasting
The first news broadcasted was the message about the attempted murder of civil rights activist Vernon Jordan.
In its first years of operation the channel was not popular with audience and just caused losses, for which it was ridiculed as the Chicken Noodle Network. Salary of its journalists was less than that of the average radio station employees.
However, over time everything changed: live broadcasts from field led to expansion of the channel. In 1982 an office in Japan opened, and in 1985 - in Europe.
In 1991 CNN managed to provide its viewers with the most complete picture of the on-going military operations during the Gulf War. Live broadcasts from the combat zone gathered the biggest TV audience in the history of cable television - 10.8 million people.
CNN covered events of the August coup d’état in Russia in 1991 and featured live storming of the Supreme Soviet of the Russian Federation in 1993. And on September 11, 2001 CNN was on the air to deliver the first public report of the event later known as the terrorist attacks of 11 September 2001. Currently CNN is one of the major news networks: it is broadcasting in 7 languages in more than 200 countries.
The channel works on basis of news exclusivity concept: its reporters are to be the first to come to the scene, make an exclusive report and promptly inform viewers worldwide.
