The Day of cinema in Belarus
The Cinema Day in Belarus was established in 1994 and coincided to the date of order for cinema production in Belarusian Soviet Socialist Republic in 1924 that meant the creation of “Soviet Belarus Studio”. Soon the studio was renamed into “Belarusfilm”. The history of motion pictures extending back 89 years is strongly connected with it.
In the intervening years at “Belarusfilm” dozens of pictures have been shot. The brightest ones among them became films about war, and also children’s movies. The series “Dirk”, films “Adventures of Buratino”, “About Little Red Riding hood”, “Sold laughter”, “Piter Pan” are excellently recognized by everybody whose childhood fell into 79-90-s.
However, the main theme of Belarusian cinema became the war. “Alpine Ballad”, Long Versts Of War”, “The Sons Are Going in battle”, the epic “The Border” are considered as the classics of Soviet military motion picture. One of its highlighted points was a film “Come And See” shot by the director Elem Klimov in 1985. The motion picture full of the bright, touching metaphors, covered the topic of war and violence at length, put unreachable hurdle for years to come.
The modern motion production in Belarus is also connected with the topic of war. In collaboration with Belarusian film-makers at the base of “Belarusfilm” such movies as “In August of 44-th” and “Brest fortress” have been shot.
