The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Ukraine Natasha Prah organized a ceremony in honor of the 25-th anniversary of independence of the country. The festive event has been attended by the heads of foreign diplomatic missions, representatives of church, businessmen as well as public.
Ambassadors Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kazakhstan, Georgia, Pakistan, Syria, Croatia, Cyprus, China, Serbia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Cuba, Iraq, Palestine, Bulgaria, Hungary, Japan, Belgium, Portugal, Argentina, India, Mexico, Canada, France came this evening to express their honor to Mrs Prah.
On the 25-th of June, 1991 Slovenia announced its independence and acclaimed its secession from Yugoslavia. Despite the fact that de jure the declaration on independence of Slovenia was accepted on the 26-th of June, de facto the country seceded from Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia one day before when all the necessary legislation acts have come into efforts.
The announcement of Slovenia’s independence acted as a fillip to the beginning of Ten-Day War, particularly, violent conflict between Yugoslavia and Slovenia that started on the 27-th of June and ended on the 6-th of July, 1991. The war finished with the signing of Brioni Agreement according to which Yugoslav People’s Army ceased armed hostilities within the territory of Slovenia, and for three months Slovenia stopped introduction of independence declaration.
In Slovenia it is accepted to celebrate two holidays similar in essence and atmosphere. The 25-th of June is the Day of nationhood, and the 26-th of December is the Day of Independence and Unity occasioned with the anniversary of referendum on independence happened in 1990.
